| One of our boys, a
Singer/Dancer, has been diagnosed with
RSD. This is an insidious disease that
causes severe, burning pain throughout
their body. I know first hand how awful
this disease is and how much he
struggles to function daily. We
have maintained his privacy to allow him
to grow into this disease and understand
how this will affect him in his life and
future. Recently, he has experienced an
onslaught of symptoms. The disease is
moving and progressing. It began in one
arm after a car accident after
experiencing what we all considered a
stinger to his arm. After initial
healing, it began it's destruction.
A few weeks after the "healing", he
began experiencing more intense pain,
unexplainable pain. After 18 months of
therapy, doctor's, specialist, a
neurologist stumbled upon it as the
symptoms appeared during an examination.
There are physiological changes that
occur when RSD is in rare form. His
hands and arms began to turn an amazing
shade of red, right before our eyes and
the pain begins. He describes it as
putting your hands in ice and leaving it
there. |
